A HEDGE on Petersfield Heath which was destroyed by fire could be replaced with a ‘living commemoration’ to the town’s fallen.
Plans by Andrew Williams to lay a ‘living hedge memorial’ along the eastern edge of the Heath were backed by the town council’s Grounds Committee last Thursday.
The proposed 110-ft hedge will consist of 111 trees in two rows with each commemorating a serviceman who gave their life.
Seven British native species – blackthorn, dogwood, field maple, hawthorn, hazel, wild crab and a singular sessile oak – will make up the hedge close to Heath Road East.
