There are plans to relocate Petersfield’s post office branch from its premises of the past 100 years in The Square to 15 Chapel Street.
Subject to consultation, the proposed new premises, which are currently empty, will undergo a refurbishment to incorporate a convenience store and post office.
The proposed closure of Petersfield’s existing Post Office branch in The Square comes exactly 100 years after its opening in 1922.
Prior to 1922, the town’s Post Office had been located in a purpose-built branch at 31 High Street since 1892, now occupied by the Dogs Trust Charity Shop.
It is unclear what may become of the current Post Office premises in The Square.
A Post Office spokesman said: “The lease at the current premises is due to expire on November 20, 2022, and we have identified an alternative location to continue to offer post office services to the local community.
“The vacancy was advertised, and we are pleased to advise that a new postmaster has been appointed to run Petersfield post office.”
People are now being asked for their views on the proposal, and specifically on access and services.
The consultation closes on October 25. See here to have your say.
