A man from Petersfield who is the son of Lord Lucan’s murdered nanny believes he will be the one to find her killer.

In a new documentary, Neil Berriman explores what happened to John Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan known as Lord Lucan. The aristocrat vanished in 1974 after being suspected of murdering his children’s nanny, Sandra Rivett, Neil’s birth mother.

Neil was adopted as a baby and didn’t know that Sandra was his mother until he was 40 years old.

Speaking to the BBC, he said: “When it was confirmed Sandra was my birth mother, I fell into complete shock and could not believe somebody would do this to her. I was cross, angry and wanted that man caught.”

With help from former BBC investigative journalist, Glen Campbell, the duo unearth a trail of clues that place Lucan in South Africa and later in Australia. If Lucan is still alive, he would be approaching his nineties.

Lucan, a 3x60’ is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
