TEDDIES, and their owners, turned out for a celebratory get-together in Petersfield.

Rain clouds threatened to put a dampener on the teddy bear’s picnic with music on the Heath on Sunday.

But the 150 or so people who turned out for the celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday, organised by Councillor Hilary Ayer and Petersfield Town Council, had a fine old time.

As a child, the Queen was a fond follower of Winnie the Pooh, so bears were invited along. Also invited were Petersfield mayor Cllr James Deane and his wife, Annabel.

Singing and jazz came courtesy of talented children from Herne Junior School, Churcher’s College and The Petersfield School.

The event raised £98 from a ‘decorate the crown’ activity. This will go towards the mayor’s charities, one of which is helping to launch Petersfield as a dementia-friendly town later this summer.
