An application has been submitted to East Hampshire District Council for eight houses in Horndean.

The dwellings would be based on land to the rear of 123a Frogmore Lane, following the demolition of existing equestrian buildings, with associated parking and landscaping.

Public consultation is open to Tuesday, May 6.

The site is currently used for the keeping of horses and the storage of tree surgery equipment. In addition, there is a livery business, which is the main use of the site, along with outbuildings used for arboricultural contractors storage and two outdoor log storage areas.

There would be six three-bedroom houses and two four-bedroom houses. Private parking has been proposed for each of the units, including two sheltered cycle spaces for each house and an area for two 240 litre wheelie bins. The design and access statement says: “The proposal has been considered with particular regard to the East Hampshire district local Plan and National Planning guidance.

“It is considered that the proposal will result in a development which enhances the locality and consequently add to the vitality of the area and help provide value to an underutilized sustainable site.

“The scheme will provide high quality family homes promoting a desirable mix of housing types to the locality and make a modest contribution towards the local housing stock.”

According to planning documents, because Frogmore Lane is not part of any public transport routes, and the site is accessible by walking and cycling, allowing for sustainable transport choices - the proposals are compliant with relevant policies and would not exacerbate the existing road.

As well as gardens for each of the dwelling, 47 trees will be planted towards creating a net gain of biodiversity.
