A back-land site in Petersfield could be transformed into a “distinctive” and “visually impressive” 55-home estate.
Thakeham Homes Ltd wants to create a “sustainable, edge-of-town community” that “reflects the character of Petersfield” on land between The Causeway and the southern end of Larcombe Road.
Half the housing on the 2.14-hectare site would be affordable, with access coming from a widened point between 213 and 209 The Causeway.
A planning application was lodged early this month. The South Downs National Park Authority will have the final say because of its size.
The site is earmarked for housing in the Petersfield Neighbourhood Plan, with the applicant billing its development as an “exemplary new community”.
“The scheme provides a range of new homes together with quality amenity space and an improved network of green open space,” states the firm in its design and access statement.
“The design has a sustainable and forward-thinking approach, where healthy lifestyles and sustainable modes of transport are encouraged.”
The applicant held an initial meeting with Petersfield Town Council in January 2022, with a public consultation taking place three months later.
The Wokingham firm definitely wants to bill its green credentials, as every home will boast an electric car-charging point, while a gateway lane, central green, wetland corridor, orchard and play area are all proposed.
An apartment block overlooking The Green and its retained mature oak is at the centre of the plans, with 42 houses and 12 flats altogether proposed.
The proposals are likely to be debated at the April 25 meeting of the PTC planning committee.
