EAST Hampshire district councillors for Liss have handed out grants to good causes in the village.

The money was handed out in the 2017-18 financial year and has already been put to good use.

Liss Junior School received £1,000 from East Hampshire district councillor for Liss, Mike Kendall, £500 from East Hampshire district councillor for the Hangers and Forest Ward, Keith Budden, and £1,000 from East Hampshire district councillor for Liss, Laetitia Pienaar, towards a new IT suite.

Liss Junior School headteacher Jilly Myers said: “The new IT suite is a tremendous teaching resource and we are very grateful for the grants.”

The Newman Collard Playing Fields Trust received £500 from Cllr Kendall, £250 from Cllr Budden and £750 from Cllr Pienaar towards an extension to the main room of the pavilion, with vastly increased storage.

Newman Collard Playing Fields Trust chairman Dorothy Collard said: “We are very grateful for the grants and we have now extended the pavilion. We can have carpet bowls and table tennis and many other activities in the pavilion now, and we are taking bookings.”

Liss Band received £250 from Cllr Kendall, £250 from Cllr Budden and £250 from Cllr Pienaar towards minor works to an alternative venue, and Liss Parish Council (LPC) received £1,000 from Cllr Kendall, £500 from Cllr Budden and £1,000 from Cllr Pienaar towards the conversion of an existing toilet facility in Liss Village Hall.

LPC also received £500 from Cllr Kendall and £500 from Cllr Pienaar towards providing additional planters to supplement existing shrubs and hanging baskets in the village.

Rother House received £250 from Cllr Kendall and £250 from Cllr Pienaar towards a residents’ fund towards gardening equipment.

Liss Athletic Football Club received £1,000 from Cllr Kendall towards new football pitches, and Liss Community Association received £750 from Cllr Pienaar towards the Liss Film Festival.
