One of the oldest independent businesses in Petersfield has proved that cash is still king following last week’s global IT outage.
Cash only signs appeared in shop windows and queues developed at cashpoints on Rams Walk and the High Street last Friday in a day of chaos around the world.
But it was business as usual at Petersfield Domestic Appliances and Repairs as the net hasn’t closed on the Lavant Street firm.
It was unaffected by the Crowdstrike outage as it’s one of the few cash-only shops left in the town.
“We’ve never had a cash machine because of the cost and the faff as you have to hire it,” said Mark Armstrong.
“I might have to relent one of these days and get one, especially if the government says no more cash, but I’m a one-man band and just dealing with cash is easier.”
Waitrose was one of the many retailers affected by the outage with some local surgeries also reporting IT issues.
