A Farnham musical ensemble is hoping its latest honorary president will bring A Kind of Magic to the role.
While the Alder Valley Brass Band may have been Under Pressure to recruit him, they recently announced that guitar legend Sir Brian May will take up the ceremonial position.
Sir Brian follows in the footsteps of other famous honorary presidents, including Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett. Alder Valley Brass Band has a musical link to the Two Ronnies, having performed under their former name, the Aldershot Brass Ensemble, on two episodes of the comedians' famous TV shows.
Sir Brian said it was “a pleasant surprise” and that he was “very honoured” to be asked to assume the role.
For more than 60 years, Alder Valley Brass Band has performed at prestigious venues ranging from London’s Royal Albert Hall and Windsor Castle to Epsom Racecourse, Hampton Court Palace, and many of the UK’s famous parks and bandstands. The band has also undertaken numerous international tours, including visits to Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and Belgium.
Now, the band is looking forward to performing some of Queen’s timeless classics. Here’s a suggestion for them:
- Euphonium Rhapsody
- Radio Tuba
- We Will Brass you
- Another One Blows the Horn
- A Kind of Trumpet
