Froxfield and Blackmoor primary schools and Petersfield Infant School really got into the festive spirit with themed nativity plays and a Christingle service.

At Petersfield Infant School in St Peter’s Road, Year R children performed A Wriggly Nativity (top right) for their parents and relatives.

Meanwhile families and friends of Froxfield Church of England (CoE) School gathered together at High Cross Church.

In the church they enjoyed a festive and poignant retelling of the Christmas nativity (pictured right).

The children delivered the nativity story with confidence and enjoyment, having worked really hard learning their lines and songs.

High Cross headteacher Vickie Farrow said: “The younger children in Key Stage 1 spoke with loudly and clearly and they were supported by the whole of Key Stage 2 singing beautifully as the choir.

“The audience filled the church which was the perfect setting for the service, bringing the whole school community together.”

Meanwhile at St Matthews CoE School in Blackmoor, Year 3 presented a Christingle service in the village church for the school (top left and below).

During the service pupils explained the significance of each element of the Christingle celebration.

Christingles celebrate Jesus being the Light of the World, and the word ‘Christingle’ means ‘Christ’s light’.

The red ribbon stands for the blood of Jesus and God’s love.

The sweets and dried fruit, normally orange, represent all of God’s creations.

After hearing the explanation, every child then lit their Christingle candle and took time to think and reflect on the holiday season.

And older pupils at the school in Drift Road then performed their nativity play, Away in a Spaceship (first and second photos bottom left).

Year Two teacher and music lead Lizzie Ranson said: “They were ‘out of this world’ in the 2022 nativity performance.

“The children sang, danced, laughed, sparkled and shone throughout each performance as they explored what Christmas is really about!”
