Steep Flower Show celebrated its 100th anniversary in grand style on Bank Holiday Saturday.
The weather was kind, Bedales’ beautiful grounds the perfect setting, and visitors came in droves.
There were over a hundred exhibitors and more than 650 exhibits.
An exhibition about the history of the show – including newspaper reports of the first, and many photos – attracted attention, with visitors recognising their parents or even themselves in some of the old photos.
Visitors with tea and cake enjoyed music from a National Youth Jazz Orchestra ensemble – one quipped he ‘almost expected Father Brown to turn up any minute!’
Prizes were presented by Steep’s very own Lord; Lord Llewellyn of Steep, former chief of Staff to David Cameron, and British Ambassador in Paris.
The Post’s own gardening correspondent Steve Amos carried off four trophies, including the Lewis Snelgar trophy for most points in the show, while his daughter Harriet made it a family affair, with two trophies including the Newell-Watson trophy for most points in the children’s section.
Show secretary Kate Ford took the trophy for most points won by a local resident and Susie Cave won the Denis Clarke trophy for outstanding show exhibit.
