A group of green-fingered volunteers from an energy firm have made a powerful connection with a Liss charity.

A team from SGN have given FitzRoy a boost as they’ve transformed a green space at Whitegates View into a memorial garden.

The good cause supports people with learning and physical disabilities while its garden provides an engaging space to encourage its users to enjoy the great outdoors.

Fourteen colleagues from SGN’s Digital Delivery Team threw themselves into the large project by stripping an overgrown area down, cutting grass, weeding and constructing a new patio.

It was part of the firm’s Community Action Programme while the team were on a familiar turf as they’ve worked with FitzRoy before.

“This charity is close to our Walton Park site, but even closer to our hearts,” said Cyber OT programme manager, Hayley Randell.

“It didn’t take much convincing for my team to decide how they wanted to volunteer their services when we heard of Fitzroy’s plan to create a memorial garden for its residents.”

FitzRoy’s Mandy Lashbrook said: “The memorial garden was developed in memory of two people we supported who sadly passed away during this last year. This space will give the people we support and staff a quiet space to relax and reflect.

“We’re so grateful to the SGN team who were fantastic on the day.

“All the team are so friendly and helpful. Without their support, we would still be developing the memorial garden whereas it’s now complete except for a few decorations.”
