A REGENCY comedy famous for the character of Mrs Grundy, and full of accident and incident, is now booking with the Stansted Players.
The Hampshire-set Speed the Plough by Thomas Morton, first performed in 1798, is the 27th annual production from the players, and can be seen in the Olivier Theatre at Bedales, from August 24 to 27.
The plot centres on two handsome youths who are eager to marry.
The gardener Evergreen is harbouring a secret but is sworn to silence, and there is the return of lost parents, murder weapons, locked rooms, love at first sight, an admirable young man of unknown parentage, scientific experiments, two strangers and two attractive young women.
And all is revealed at the last minute. The play also includes a fashionable country dance.
The cast includes Dominic Ashton, Sam Bibby, Olivia Brett, George Sinclair, Flo Robson, Alex Yetman, Tom Kingsley Jones, Jordan Theis, Imogen Welch, Rebecca Langlands, Serena Brett, James Thomas, Lucy Coates and Christy Callaway Gale.
Costumes are being provided by the Bedales Wardrobe.
Performances are at 7.30pm on August 24 to 26, and at 3pm on August 27.
