Shoppers could soon get everything they want for a Sunday lunch from a short section of a Petersfield street.
A greengrocer could soon return to Lavant Street if plans by Morgans Butchers come to fruition.
They are hopeful of converting their neighbouring vacant unit into Mia’s Traditional Fruit & Vegetables with an April opening date being circled on the calendar.
Petersfield has been without a traditional greengrocers since Bunches – previously called The Happy Cow – closed in December following a brief spell as a pizzeria.
The shops used to compliment each other perfectly, being just a few units apart, with boss Ryan Morgan keen to give shoppers the perfect place to get meat and two veg.
He said: “I’m gutted Bunches has gone but at the same time there’s nowhere else in Petersfield aside from the supermarkets that does fruit and veg. We’ll give it a go and see what happens.
“It all depends on income because I’ll be doing the work myself but I would like it open by the end of April.”
The unit would be rented from Mr Morgan’s uncle and will be named Mia after Ryan’s daughter. He also considered returning the unit into a fishmonger, like from decades previous, but the expected running costs were deemed prohibitively expensive.
Meanwhile, it looks like the previous greengrocer’s will be turned into a pizzeria judging by town council paperwork.
Northern Slice asked the council for a grant to help with the costs of converting the store, but the application was rejected.
