POLICE say witnesses to an accident on the A3 between the Buriton slip road and the Petersfield McDonalds slip road suggest the cause was speeding while undertaking.

In a tweet Hampshire Roads Policing Unit said: “A3 North between Buriton and Petersfield closed but traffic moving past the single vehicle collision.”

The crash that closed one lane of the northbound carriage way at just before 1pm on Friday, December 23, in torrential rain saw an ambulance called to the scene to treat a minor injury.

Police added: “Witness accounts suggest speed and undertaking. Ultimately a wholly avoidable collision that has led to an additional and unnecessary drain on NHS resources.”

The road fully re-opened after the vehicle was cleared away by a recovery truck.
