A Clanfield woman has spoken of her disbelief after fly-tippers literally left a trail of destruction on a lane out of the village.

Around half a mile of waste, household furniture and debris was dumped at regular intervals along Petersfield Lane and East Meon Lane early last Monday (July 8).

The pattern suggests that someone in the back of a van or pick-up threw the contents of a house clearance onto the road while an accomplice drove.

“It was literally along the whole length of the road, just after you turn off,” said the villager who encountered the trail of rubbish at 7.45am.

“Someone in the back of a van or something similar must have dumped and dumped and dumped all these things one after the other. I’m sure it all came from a house clearance.”

“There was a doll, a large mattress, a purple bit of furniture, and it’s obvious it’s all come from someone’s house,” added the informant, who suspects the original owner had no idea the items would be dumped illegally.

Workers from East Hampshire Norse cleared the rubbish by 10.30am the same morning after being reported and classified as an “urgent” priority.

A spokesperson for EHDC said members of their district team have sifted through the rubbish to collect evidence and who will investigate who might be responsible.

Roadside fly-tipping is usually cleared by EHDC and can be reported through 01730 234295.

If you see the act being committed then call the police on 101.
