A QUACKERS event which took place on land and water has answered the prayers of churchgoers in a Rother Valley community.
This year’s “very successful” Trotton Fete and Duck Race is expected to raise more than £3,000 for the village church.
The car park filled up early, the coconut shy ran out of coconuts, and a silent auction for a holiday for eight in Cornwall raised £1,000.
The messiest attraction was the doughnut tree where villagers could eat the treat for free if they succeeded without using their hands.
Some 520 tickets for the duck race on the Rother were bought, but it was a slow one according to Charles Hamen, with Tom of East Lodge in Rogate claiming the winner’s prize.
He said: “A woman called Rosie has got the coveted whisky for coming last, but they’ve still not claimed it.”
