Schools across Hampshire have been celebrating World Book Day, which took place yesterday on March 6.
But West Meon Primary have a whole Book Week and to mark the occassion, they took a field trip to the Petersfield Library, where the pupils took part in activities to improve their knowledge of the library and were able to sign up for library cards.
“I enjoyed the scavenger hunt,” explained Connie from Foxes Class.
“We had fun finding different types of books.”
Headteacher Julie Slamaker, said: “Reading and books are a priority in primary education, having fun while reading and enjoying books is at the centre of the National Curriculum’s ‘Reading for Pleasure’ objective.’”
According to the 2024 Annual Literacy Survey, children and young people who enjoy reading have a significantly higher average reading score. In addition, the survey shows a higher average score in children and young people who read daily and parents and schools can encourage children to read daily at home.
To mark the end of their Book Week, West Meon students are dressing up and taking part in final activities today (Friday, March 7).
