Alton fell to a 45-run defeat at Hampshire Academy in the Southern Premier Cricket League Premier Division on Saturday.

Bash Walters and Jude Wright opened the bowling for Alton and kept things tight before Wright trapped Sam Ashman leg before wicket.

Finn Gordon and Connor Lamsdale (50) then added 113 before Ben Rolfs bowled Lamsdale. Gordon followed for 68, but Andrew MacEwan and Sanjeet Garood added 44 before Walters dismissed Garood for 30.

MacEwan (58), Freddie Gillett (29) and Ethan Martin (26) scored useful runs as the Academy finished on 309 for eight.

Alton lost Abhay Gonella (six), Dan Harris (21) and Rolfs (14) early on and slipped to 55 for three.

Sam Ruffell (82) and Scott Myers (61) added 140 to leave Alton well placed on 195 for three, but wickets then fell regularly as the visitors were bowled out for 264.

Alton’s second team beat Ferndown Weyfarers by five wickets.

Tom Andrews (five for 21) was the pick of the bowlers as Alton restricted the visitors to 202 for nine. Ryan Hale (98) and Andy Postles (51) starred with the bat as Alton knocked the runs off in the 43rd over.

Alton’s third team beat Amport by three wickets.

Jamie Craig (three for 16) impressed with the ball as Alton bowled the hosts out for 179. Ian Mason (55 not out) top scored as Alton knocked the runs off in the 42nd over.

Alton’s fourth team lost by nine wickets against Frimley Phoenix. Alton were bowled out for 150 and the visitors knocked the runs off in 21 overs.

Alton’s women beat Hursley Park by ten wickets.

Mel Vaggers (four for 16) and Jorja Wright (three for six) impressed with the ball as Alton bowled the visitors out for 75. Wright (30 not out) and Vaggers (35 not out) then knocked the runs off inside 13 overs.
