Tilford beat Frensham by 63 runs in a low-scoring match in Division One of the I’Anson League.

Having won the toss, Frensham put their opposition into bat first and took three wickets in the first eight overs with only 28 on the board – with Nick Cobbold (two for 34) claiming the two openers.

Henry Marks and Ciaran Rooney restored the innings with a 33-run partnership, before Rooney was caught for 26.

Skipper George Ellis (28) added 57 with Marks before he was run out going for a third run. Marks scored a watchful 42 off 71 balls before being stumped off Jack Blythe’s bowling. The off spinner claimed the final three wickets to end the Tilford innings at 157 in the final over and finish with figures of four for 11.

Frensham too lost early wickets, losing half their side with just 34 on the board, including captain George Breddy. It was only opener Andy Boyle who put up much resistance with a lone performance of 53 off 86 balls, which included five sixes – several of which landed by the Barley Mow. He was caught behind at the fall of the seventh wicket with the total on 84, and only ten more runs were added before the visitors were all out for 94 in the 32nd over. The wickets were shared by the Tilford bowlers, with Huw Town-Jones taking three for 21.

Headley’s first team lost by six wickets at Blackheath.

Having been put into bat, Headley showed resolve against the miserly Blackheath bowlers with openers George King and Peter Poole seeing off the new ball.

Thereafter, Headley saw a familiar story with the middle order failing to trouble the scoreboard too much as the visitors were bowled out for 100 in the 41st over.

Devyn Scott led the charge for Headley with the ball, and his figures of four for 21 off his nine overs reflected the quality of his spell.

However, the Blackheath batters picked off the other bowlers with skipper Will Melhuish (58 not out) steering his side to victory in the 27th over.

In Division Four, Headley’s second team were itching to play having had their opening match cancelled.

Having won the toss at the Bordon & Oakhanger Sports Club, the Headley bowlers proceeded to take frequent wickets against Kingsley. Jack Baldwin (four for nine off nine overs) dismissed Dan Wheatley leg before wicket first ball of the innings, and was the stand-out performer alongside stand-in skipper Kieran Cook (four for three) as Kingsley were skittled out in the 25th over for a feeble 27 runs.

The match was over in the sixth over of the reply, with Rana Rizwan top scoring with a swashbuckling 17 not out as Headley won by nine wickets.

In Division Six, Headley’s third team could muster only nine players for their match against Milford.

The hosts were bowled out for a paltry 36. Milford surpassed the score in the sixth over without losing a wicket.
