Twenty of Stellar’s women’s artistic gymnastics squad headed to the Guildford Spectrum to take part in the South East National Development Pathway Grades.
This annual event gives gymnasts across the region the opportunity to compete set skills to pass their grades – and once again it was a busy weekend with more than 300 gymnasts taking to the floor from 30 clubs.
After much preparation, including mock competitions, the Stellar girls were ready to perform – and they did their coaches proud.
Hallie Haskins went above and beyond to achieve a commendation at Grade 5. At Grade 4, Mai Bowman came fourth on range and conditioning, while her team-mate and cousin Olivia Fridge came eighth on beam. Iris Tooke came ninth on range and conditioning in the same grade.
At Grade 3, Sophie Smyth’s floor routine earned her tenth place and Kiri Jobbins came tenth on range and conditioning. Elsa Antrobus came ninth on range and conditioning, fifth on floor, fourth on beam and first on bars. Her excellent work earned her a commendation and fourth place rosette overall against girls much older.
The impressive results kept coming in for the Grade 2 gymnasts. Neve Pepper came ninth on vault, seventh on floor and range and conditioning and sixth on bars, earning her tenth place overall.
Georgia Thomas went steady on all pieces, claiming ninth overall with top-ten finishes on beam and floor.
Nell Boulle had her best competition yet, taking home the silver medal at Grade 2 with sixth on vault, fifth on bars and range and conditioning, third on beam and first for her elegant floor routine. She received a commendation.
The weekend finished with Grade 1 and gymnasts Freya Swain and Ashley Mitchell kept the energy going right until the very end. Ashley came ninth overall with two seventh place finishes on vault and beam and a sixth place on bars. Freya took home the sixth place rosette after finishing ninth on vault, beam and range and conditioning, sixth on bars and third on floor.
Head coach Hannah Fox said: “We are so proud once again of our squad girls.
“This is such a huge event and to come out with multiple top-ten finishes across all the grades we entered is testament to how hard the girls work and their commitment to our programme.”
Stellar’s score average rose again this year at the event.
