Aldershot Town assistant manager Hugo Langton was delighted with his side’s performance after they picked up an impressive 3-1 win against Solihull Moors in the National League.
Goals from Cameron Hargreaves, Aaron Jones and Ryan Jones gave the Shots a deserved three points in front of a crowd of 1,603 at the EBB Stadium.
“I thought we played some really good stuff in the first half on not the easiest of surfaces to play on,” said Langton.
“I think the players need to be applauded for the type of football we played in the first half.
“It's not easy to maintain that for 90 minutes – especially when you're playing a lot of games back-to-back.
“We did enough more than enough to win the game in the first half and saw the game out relatively comfortably in the second half.”
All three of the Shots’ goals were eye-catching, and Langton was delighted that hard work on the training ground paid off.
“Since the first day of pre-season we've worked on our playing style and our attacking play,” said Langton.
“We work on it pretty much every day in one form or another.
“When you score three goals that sum up our identity it's really pleasing.
“The credit goes to the players because they’re the ones that go out and do it.
“They stuck to the script and got their rewards.”
The Shots had raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time after a superb first-half performance, but Langton acknowledged his side still had a job to do in the second half to pick up the three points.
“At half-time there were some things we wanted to improve and tighten up,” said Langton.
“We're not the kind of stuff that will go in and congratulate a team at half-time for doing well. You haven't won the game – you've got half the job done.
“We thought we might have to be a bit more streetwise and might have to play a bit longer at times.
“One thing we didn't want them to do was to try to slow the game down and see the game out.
“We want to try to keep the ball on the pitch and play with a tempo, but I thought we were quite streetwise managing the game in the second half.
“We could have scored more goals and I don't think Solihull hurt us. I felt quite comfortable.
“Maybe we caught Solihull at a good time for us.
“We took advantage of it, but they're a good side.
“As soon as we conceded we still tried to go up the other end and score more goals.
“That's what we're about. We're not a team that wants to sit off teams – we want to attack.
“We'd rather attack than defend but there are moments in the game when you're going to have to defend.”
The win against Solihull made it back-to-back home victories for the Shots after beating Hartlepool in their previous game, and Langton was full of praise for the support his side received from the Aldershot fans.
“The crowd have been behind us and it makes a huge difference,” said Langton.
“There are times when the game can get a bit difficult or complicated, but when you've got the crowd behind you it helps the players.”
