Aldershot Town have confirmed the signing of experienced midfielder James Henry.

The 35-year-old joins the Shots after a seven-year spell with Oxford United. Henry, who started his career with Reading and earned England under-19 caps as a youngster, also enjoyed long stints at Millwall and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Aldershot manager Tommy Widdrington said: “He’s trained with the group over the past few weeks and shown not only excellent football awareness and ability but an assured and measured approach to whatever we have thrown at him.

“His record most recently at Oxford United is a measure of how he looks after himself and his experience will be an attribute I feel we need at the club.

“This addition strengthens our attacking options and I feel it shows our intention of improving on last season’s efforts and I’m sure the Shots family will all join me in welcoming James to the EBB.”

Head of recruitment Jamie Hedges said: “He’s been training with us for a little while and shown that despite being 35, he is in fantastic shape.

“James is a model professional, will add much-needed experience to the group and his pedigree speaks for itself.

“We wanted to add more goals to the group and James will do just that. It should be a fantastic coup for the football club.”

Aldershot have also confirmed that Dejan Tetek has agreed terms to stay with the Shots for the 2024-25 season.

The midfielder joined the Shots in October 2023. He has been training with the Shots during pre-season and played in pre-season friendlies against Bristol City, Birmingham City, Crawley Town and Bromley.

“While Dejan has been around us for the past two weeks, I am really pleased we’ve managed to add him to the group permanently,” said Widdrington.

“He feels fitter and stronger than when he joined us last season and I believe he will play a big part in our engine room this campaign.

“He’ll feel he has unfinished business here at Aldershot and I look forward to working with him once again.”
