Alton manager Kevin Adair was frustrated after his side blew a 2-0 lead against Tadley Calleva in the Combined Counties Premier Division South.

First-half goals from Adam Poynter and Charlie Postance saw the Brewers race into an early lead, but second-half goals from Ash Neal, Kieran Rodgers and Brad Neal gave the visitors the three points at Anstey Park Enclosure.

“We've probably created more chances than in some of the games we have won or got a point from but to be 2-0 up at half-time and lose 3-2 – we've got to be better than that,” said Adair.

“It was a bit naive from us. There were moments in the game when we should have controlled and looked after the ball and there were moments when we should have taken our chances.

“We had six half-chances and three or four decent balls into the box, so it's a tough one to take.

“We are where we are in the league because we don't do those things at the minute.

“We conceded two goals from deliveries we should have dealt with better. We've got to dominate areas like that.

“Tadley’s second goal was top draw – you won't see a better goal than that this season in terms of how they played.

“They're a good side and they work hard. They're good at the good things and the bad things.

“That's something we lack a little bit so it's tough to take but we've got to accept it, move on and go again on Saturday.”

Postance and Lamar Koroma impressed in their first starts for Alton after joining on a dual-registration basis from Isthmian League South Central Division outfit Hartley Wintney, and Adair was pleased with the impact the duo made.

“Our squad is a bit threadbare at the minute so we've had to bring a couple of players in to help us out and give us numbers,” said Adair.

“We've got quite a lot of injuries. It's not long-term fixes but it’s two quality players.

“Charlie won a lot of things aerially and we probably didn't get around him on the second balls.

“Lamar goes in and works hard. He's industrious, he breaks things up and he looks to get the ball moving quickly.

“They were definitely positive for us, irrelevant of the result.”

Alton will host Balham in the Combined Counties Premier Division South on Saturday (3pm kick-off), and Adair is targeting a return to winning ways.

“We’ve got to be aiming to get three points on Saturday,” said Adair.
