Badshot Lea returned to winning ways with a superb 6-3 victory against fellow strugglers Ashford Town (Middlesex) in the Isthmian League South Central Division.
Goals from Charlie George (2), Finlay Evans (2), Baback Dehghani and Joe Lewis-Evans fired the Baggies to an emphatic win in front of a crowd of 137 at Wesfield Lane and a vital three points.
The visitors had the first chance of the afternoon in the fifth minute when Liam Moore’s powerful shot was well held by Baggies keeper Harry Cawdron.
Badshot Lea took the lead three minutes later when Dhaghani’s low cross was cleverly guided home by George.
The hosts doubled their advantage in spectacular style on 11 minutes when Lewis-Evans clipped a ball down the left-hand channel to Evans, who cut inside and whipped a superb right-foot shot into the far top corner.
The third goal arrived five minutes later when Evans was played through by a ball over the top and slotted into the empty net with Ashford keeper Marcin Brzozowski down with an injury.
Brzozowski had to go off and was replaced by Scott Day.
The Baggies continued to push and nearly scored a fourth in the 23rd minute when Aitor Andon’s ball over the top found Lewis-Evans, whose left-foot shot was saved by Day.
Andon tried his luck a minute later with a powerful shot from just outside the box which went over the bar.
The Baggies continued to create chances and Evans hit a left-foot shot across goal which was well saved by Day.
The hosts duly scored their fourth on 33 minutes, and it was a cracker.
Dehghani cut in from the left and gave Day no chance with a superb curling effort into the far top corner.
Ashford got on the scoreboard two minutes later when Barsa Mirtahmasebi took a touch and drilled a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
The Baggies went straight on the attack from the kick-off and soon restored their four-goal advantage.
Kareem Akinnibi’s shot was deflected into the path of Evans, whose shot was parried away by Day. The loose ball fell to George, who smashed a powerful left-foot shot past Day.
The Baggies nearly scored a sixth before half-time when Evans clipped a lovely ball to the back post to Akinnibi, whose sweet volley fizzed just over the bar.
Ashford started the second half on the front foot and pulled a goal back in the 48th minute when Jayden Porter-Atkinson drove forward and drilled a superb shot past Cawdron and into the far corner to make it 5-2.
The visitors nearly scored their third of the afternoon on 66 minutes when Sam Humphreys’ effort hit the post before being cleared to safety.
The Baggies responded and scored their sixth in the 72nd minute when Lewis-Evans was played through and confidently slotted his finish past Day and into the bottom corner.
Ashford made it 6-3 six minutes later when Elliott Poley tucked home at the back post from a corner, but that failed to take the gloss off an excellent afternoon for Badshot Lea.
Next up for the Baggies is a trip to Westfield in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday, January 25 (3pm kick-off).
