Badshot Lea had to settle for a point after conceding a late equaliser to draw 1-1 at home to Rayners Lane in the Isthmian League South Central Division.
Joe Lewis-Evans’ first-minute goal was cancelled out by Frank Keita’s 82nd-minute goal as the points were shared at Westfield Lane.
The home side were quick out of the traps and and took the lead in the opening 60 seconds.
The Baggies went on the attack straight from the kick-off and Lewis-Evans took his man on before producing a composed left-foot finish past Rayners Lane keeper Endurance Johnson and into the bottom right-hand corner.
The visitors produced their first effort on target in the eighth minute, when Keita’s free kick was easily held by Baggies keeper Harry Cawdron.
Anthony Cook was next to try his luck for Rayners Lane, but his effort was well parried away by Cawdron.
The Baggies had a good chance to double their advantage on 16 minutes when Lewis-Evans was played through and bore down on goal before seeing his left-foot shot well blocked by the advancing Johnson.
The resulting corner found Ibrahim Busari at the far post, and his powerful effort was well parried away by Johnson.
Busari turned provider on 28 minutes when he showed good feet to beat his man on the left before delivering a low ball across the box which Samuel Yabani lifted just over the bar from close range.
The visitors nearly equalised in the 36th minute when Wiktor Makowski’s powerful right-foot strike was held by Cawdron at the second attempt.
The Baggies nearly doubled their advantage in first-half stoppage time when Finlay Evans’ low shot was well parried away by Johnson.
There was still time for the home side to create one more chance before the break, but Aitor Andon dragged his shot wide of the near post.
Badshot Lea created a good opening early in the second half, but Evans fired his shot over the bar after cutting in from the right.
The visitors then had an excellent chance to equalise on 51 minutes, but Makowski put his close-range effort wide of the far post.
Makowski went close again two minutes later when his shot was held by Cawdron at the second attempt.
Keita was next to try his luck for Rayners Lane, but his powerful effort from a tight angle went over the bar.
The Baggies nearly doubled their advantage on the hour mark when Baback Dehghani’s corner had to be clawed away by Johnson from underneath his crossbar.
Rayners Lane went back on the attack and Cook’s left-foot shot forced a good save from Cawdron.
The game then became rather scrappy, with clear-cut chances at a premium.
Badshot Lea did have a chance to go 2-0 up in the 79th minute when Evans got on the end of a long ball and drove forwards before hitting a low shot which was well blocked by the advancing Johnson.
The visitors then got back on level terms on 82 minutes when Keita calmly placed his left-foot finish past Cawdron and into the bottom right-hand corner.
The home side had a chance to win the game in stoppage time, but Theo White’s effort went wide of the left-hand post and the spoils were shared.
Next up for the Baggies is a trip to Leatherhead in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday, December 21 (3pm kick-off).
