Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith was disappointed with his side’s performance after they lost 4-0 at home to Ascot United in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

“I thought Ascot were the better team from the start of the game,” said Smith.

“We had two good chances but we didn't work the goalkeeper properly, so we're disappointed with that.

“We couldn't put the ball in the net and then we gave two poor goals away.

“We were nowhere near tight enough.

“It looked like a bit of a clueless performance by a group that have done well recently without getting results.

“We deserved to lose.

“I thought Ascot were good but they didn't have to do a lot to win the game once they went in front.

“We got worse as the game went on.

“The second half was a non-event and it's disappointing because the lads have been good in recent weeks but that was a shadow of what we've shown.

“Credit to Ascot because they took advantage of it and coasted to a win.

“From our point of view I thought two players stood out in terms of what they did.

“Charlie George gave a good account of himself and I thought Dawid Hamiga did well.

“We were terrible defensively.

“We didn't play well and I don't know if Ascot were really good or whether they took advantage of a team who rolled over and didn't do a lot.

“They could have scored more in the second half – if we're honest it could have been worse than it was.

“They looked like they need the points and we looked like a team that aren't accepting that we're in a relegation battle and we need points.

“It looked like a team destined for relegation playing a team looking to get in the play-offs.

“It’s a tough one to take.”
