Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson was disappointed with his side’s second-half performance after they drew 2-2 against Horndean in the Isthmian League South Central Division.
Town led twice thanks to goals from Jordan Stepney and Owen Dean, but had to settle for a share of the spoils in front of a crowd of 639 at The Memorial Ground.
“It was a strange game,” said Johnson. “We felt we were comfortable in the first half passing it, but nothing really happened – it was a bit of a dead half.
“We got a goal and then we gave a sloppy goal away to equal it up.
“The equaliser came from a ball over the top. We made the wrong decision. We retreated to the goalline rather than going and seeing the ball out.
“We went in at half-time and were confident and comfortable, but we had to make a couple of forced changes at half-time. I think that showed in the second half.
“I thought we were poor in the second half and were maybe a little bit lucky to get away with a point. I think they (Horndean) looked like the team that was going to score a winner.
“At half-time we said to tidy up a little bit and be a bit braver passing the ball forward, but we were way off it in the second half. We had no shape about us. We did our own thing and it was a dire second half.
“We needed to stick to the plan. We have got by over the past four weeks but I think it's starting to highlight now that we’re missing Darryl Sanders and Jack Dean. They are massive players. As you keep playing and punching the games out it highlights that you miss them.”
Farnham were able to welcome back Pat Nash and Max Meaton from injury on Saturday, and Johnson was pleased to have the duo back.
“I think that showed in the first half – the distribution with Pat and Max giving us the out,” said Johnson.
“We had to take Max off at half-time to make sure he doesn't pull up again, so that was a big miss in the second half.”
Farnham are still top of the league and Johnson is confident his side will last the course this season.
“We're going to lose and we're going to draw games but we're in a good position,” said Johnson. “The boys coming back from injury is going to be a welcome thing.
“We've just got to get through this little patch.”
