Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson was disappointed with his side’s performance despite beating Camberley Town 4-0 in the Combined Counties Premier Division South on Saturday.
Harry Cooksley opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half, before second-half goals from Lamar Koroma, Darryl Sanders and Joe Jackson sealed the three points for the home side in front of a bumper crowd of 811 at The Memorial Ground.
Johnson felt his side had plenty of room for improvement, though, despite the emphatic win.
“I thought we were poor in all areas, barring Pat Nash in goal,” said Johnson.
“We were poor with the ball. The conditions were difficult – the wind played a big factor in that. It’s a little bit disappointing, but we’re disappointed with winning 4-0 at home – that’s the standards we set. We wanted a little bit more quality on the ball.
“It seemed flat out there, from both teams. It felt dead. I don’t know what it was.
“We couldn’t get to grips with the fact every time we won the ball if we pass to Owen Dean we’re through on goal. For whatever reason we seemed to turn it down and choose the wrong pass. It was a frustrating first half but we led 1-0 – we had a scare off the bar from Camberley but we were really comfortable.”
Johnson was happier with his side’s second-half performance after emphasising his message at half-time.
“It was that same message – find Owen Dean with every clearance,” said Johnson.
“Every time your thought process needs to be to put it in that area of the pitch and be a little bit more ruthless and take a little bit more care with the ball. I thought we did in the second half. I thought Joe Jackson released himself really well from right-back and that started it all really – from then on we looked like we would win the game.
“The goals were simple tap ins. It was that simple, but we made hard work of it for whatever reason.
“Ryan Kinnane, Guy Hollis and Joe were solid – I just felt it was a little bit frustrating.
“Joe got his goal. He deserved it – especially from his second-half performance.”
Farnham’s third goal on Saturday brought up 100 goals in all competitions this season, and Johnson was pleased to reach that milestone.
“It’s a great achievement and a lot of the goals have been really good goals,” said Johnson. “If you try to pick out your top three I think you’re picking out your top 20. There’s been some really good goals.”
Next up for Farnham is a trip to Guildford City in the Combined Counties Premier Division South on Saturday afternoon (3pm), and Johnson is targeting another win.
“We’ll aim to go to Guildford and get another three points,” said Johnson.
