HORNDEAN Technology College lifted the Hampshire Schools’ FA Charlie Mortimer under-16 Trophy after a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory against Wildern in the final at Eastleigh’s Silverlake Stadium.

They took the lead three times during a rip-roaring final, which ended 2-2 at the end of normal time and went to spot kicks after Wildern equalised with a late own goal to make it 3-3.

Wildern hit the upright with their third penalty and lost the shoot-out 5-4, with Horndean converting all of their spot kicks in style.

Horndean went close several times before a fine solo goal by Hampshire under-16s striker Will Webb gave them a deserved lead, which Ollie Watson cancelled out for Wildern just before half time.

Max Brans restored Horndean’s lead, only to see Luke Pardoe volley Wildern level and take the tie into extra time.

David Rutter looked to have won it for Horndean – but with stoppage time looming James Cable’s shot cannoned in off a defender’s boot.

Horndean won a nerve racking penalty shoot-out to etch their name on the trophy beneath last year’s winners, Portsmouth’s Springfield.
