Petersfield Town co-manager Connor Hoare was delighted after his side scored a late winner to win 2-1 at Shoreham in the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division on Saturday.
The home side tried to take the initiative in the opening minutes, but the Rams soon got the upper hand and passed the ball around nicely. Their build-up play led to several corners, but they failed to capitalise on them.
As the half progressed the Rams’ passing became less fluent and they failed to create any clear-cut chances.
Shoreham posed a threat, with debutant Rams keeper Keiran Connell doing well to hold a 38th-minute shot from Max Howell.
The intensity of the game increased after the break, particularly after Shoreham's Tom Cousins was sent off in the 56th minute for a poor challenge on Kieran Alcock.
Despite being reduced to ten men it was the home side who took the lead in the 63rd minute from a well-struck free kick from just outside the box by Ramon Santos.
Their joy was short-lived, as the Rams were back on terms just three minutes later when a loose ball in the box was fired home through a crowd of players by Harrison Cable.
The Rams were now buzzing, with most of the play in the Shoreham half.
In the 90th minute the Rams finally got the breakthrough they deserved when Cable slotted home after some good interplay in the box.
As the Rams were celebrating, Shoreham's Maykol Sabino engaged in an argument with the referee and was yellow carded but he persisted and was shown a second yellow to reduce the home side to nine men.
Deep into added time a reckless challenge on Petersfield’s Charlie Merritt resulted in Harley Damario's dismissal.
Hoare was pleased with his side’s performance at Shoreham.
“We were fully in control and I was always confident we were going to win the game – even when we went 1-0 down,” said Hoare. “It was a really good performance.”
Saturday’s win followed a 2-2 draw at Horsham YMCA last Tuesday night (October 22).
The Rams currently sit third in the table, on 27 points from 14 games.
