Liss Runners achieved an impressive joint-second place in this season’s Southern Cross Country League.
The 2023-24 season was held over five rounds, and Liss finished joint-second with Denmead Striders and Alton Runners. The championship was won by Basingstoke & Mid Hants AC.
Liss’ success built gradually over the past year, thanks to the addition of some new members participating and consistent overall team efforts. There were a number of top ten individual finishes in the ladies’ and men’s teams.
Team captain Steve Armstrong gathered momentum for the club with his enthusiasm and encouragement for everyone to take part. Steve also asked those not running for support – whether it be childcare, cakes for post-race, tent erection for kit, transport sharing, photography or cheering on.
Ladies’ captain Emily Durrant, who has been on maternity leave, still came to support the team with her husband Kev and their newborn baby. This tight-knit family feel is an important part of Liss Runners.
The Southern Cross Country League is free to affiliated running club members. It was organised by the league, with running clubs hosting the different rounds of the series. For a full breakdown of results visit www.southerncrosscountryleague.co.uk for more information.
