TWENTY members of the Petersfield Triathlon Club took on the Swashbuckler Triathlon at the impressive Buckler’s Hard venue in the New Forest.
There were two distances on the day; the standard with a 1.3km swim, 33km bike ride and 11km run, and the middle distance with a 1.9km swim, 90km bike ride and 22km run.
It was an early start for all with the first in the water at 6.15am kept company in the river Beaulieu by a swarm of jellyfish.
Next came a fast bike ride through the rolling open roads, personal bests only hindered by dodging the ponies and donkeys.
Lastly came a gruelling run, mostly on road, when the sun was at its hottest, and the runners were cheered on at the hilly finish line by the supportive spectators and the other finishers who stayed on.
Four of the Petersfield Triathlon Club team scooped prizes; for the standard distance Jenny Phillips was the first super veteran and Toby Clay was the first veteran, and for the middle distance the club’s chairwoman Kim King took second super vet and Lucy Mitchell was the third veteran.
Petersfield Triathlon Club athletes were also in action elsewhere in the country.
Sandra Sellis was the first placed veteran at the Arundel Sprint Triathlon, and Chris Turner picking up first place in her age category at Fareham’s Sprint Triathlon.
