Petersfield’s first team claimed the Hampshire Counties One league title with two fixtures to play without pulling on their boots on Saturday.
Field’s first team were primed and ready for their home league fixture against Bournemouth’s second team, only to learn late on Thursday that Bournemouth were unable to fulfil the fixture because of player injuries and unavailability across their senior squad.
Petersfield’s two remaining league fixtures are at home on Saturday against Ellingham & Ringwood and away at Portsmouth on Saturday, April 6.
Field will then host Surrey-based Weybridge Vandals at Penns Place in the first round of the Papa Johns Men’s Community Cup Counties One Championship on Saturday, April 13.
Petersfield second team’s home league fixture against Alresford’s second team was also in jeopardy as the visitors had a shortage of players.
Alresford sportingly awarded Petersfield a home walkover and their depleted squad were lent three players for the match, which was played as a friendly.
Despite the friendliness and dogged determination of the depleted Alresford squad, with Petersfield club captain Harley Orr, Alex Groves and Jorge Villalon playing for the visitors, the home side ran out comprehensive 83-10 winners.
Petersfield’s tries came from Jordan Allan (four), Toby Colwood (three), Jake Bosher (two), Connah Bason (two), Jay Bremner and Will Cross. Villalon scored Alresford’s try early in the second half.
Petersfield Veterans won 20-10 at home to Guildford under the lights on Friday night in a highly-competitive match where no quarter was given or received by either side.
