WITH a squad of more than 40 players, Alton Rugby Club’s Colts are turning in fine performances and surprising some of the larger, more established clubs in Hampshire.
The club has so many players they have been able to field two teams this year and competition for places is intense. The A squad have won against Winchester, Havant and Tottonians, and are playing an exciting brand of rugby. Most impressive of these wins was the victory at Havant, who are reigning Hampshire holders and National Colts Cup runners-up. Despite being 15-0 down at half time, the Alton team showed incredible spirit to pull off a superb 26-22 victory with a late try.
Away from the league, the colts progressed in the National Colts Cup with a convincing first round win against New Milton and a 28-22 win against fancied Chichester. Not to be outdone, the B team won their first game by beating Millbrook 34-24.
