PETERSFIELD Rugby Club’s season will come to an end on Sunday with the annual pub sevens tournament at Penns Place.
With more than 20 teams entered, there is a competition for everyone – those who take it seriously, those less seriously and those who want to party from the start.
The event, once again sponsored by the Trooper Inn, will see a couple of additions this year. In honour of renowned publican and club supporter Jerry Hicks, his wife Sarah will be judging the best shirt competition and presenting a tankard in his name.
Also this year the club will be backing up its commitment to supporting The Rosemary Foundation charity by emblazing its logo on the referee’s shirts – which have been sponsored by CWC Research.
The action-packed event will kick off at 10.30am with the carnival atmosphere going on until the final at approximately 4.30pm.
Last year’s winners the White Horse will no doubt be up against it as the Queen’s Head and the Tap enter strong sides. Coxy’s Windmill Inn are welcomed back from last year’s sabbatical – but the Penguins will be missing as team manager John Delahunty recovers from illness.
Also gracing the competition for the first time is Petersfield’s own Charlie Amesbury who will be playing for Cloisters. Charlie has played for Harlequins, Newcastle Falcons, Sale Sharks, Bristol and England Sevens, and, more recently, captained Cambridge University at the Varsity match.
