Petersfield 0 Fareham Heathens 49: PETERSFIELD slumped to another heavy defeat, this time to third-placed Fareham Heathens.
Field had their chances, particularly in the first half, but failed to convert pressure in to points. The Heathens, on the other hand, demonstrated why they are challenging fellow high-fliers Millbrook and Bognor for the league title with a well-drilled team performance. They led 15-0 courtesy of three tries by half time and steadily added more over the next 40 minutes, amassing nine in all. They did, however, leave 14 points on the pitch due to some wasteful conversion attempts.
Field’s league woes were compounded by wins from the two teams above them, including a win by the Isle of Wight at home to fourth-placed Fordingbridge. Without a dramatic turnaround Field look destined for the drop and the fall-out from Saturday’s match may compound the situation. Field collected a yellow and a straight red, the former halfway through the third quarter and the latter at the very end of the game.
