STEEP Stoolball Club have played plenty of matches.
The team travelled to Lodsworth for a 10 overs per innings friendly fixture.
The hosts batted first and although Mandy Hill (38) batted with forceful assurance, her partner Wendy Squires (11) found it hard against the steady Steep bowling. Both were eventually out to two fine catches by Juliet Knight.
Morna Phillips was run out for 17, but Yvonne Woodward scored 25 not out as Lodworth finished on 102.
Knight was caught in the first over of Steep’s reply, but Jane Plant and Rachel Gorvin made a useful stand of 40. Joy Barnes livened the pace with 20 runs and Jacquie Bowles added 17, but Steep’s total was 10 runs short on 92.
Steep then played away against Midhurst. Midhurst batted first and made 95 off 10 overs with Lily White top scoring with 31 runs.
Losing two wickets in the first over was not a good start for Steep’s innings, but Jane Plant (10) and Fiona Oakley (16) steadied the ship. Bowles (29 not out) joined Lauren Preston (32 not out) and the pair took Steep over the line with a winning score of 97.
Steep then played at home to Northchapel. Northchapel batted first and scored 105 off 11 overs. Laura K top scored with 27 and Sarah and Stacey both contributed 15.
Steep’s reply was steady with Ella Rendall and Fiona Oakley both scoring 15. Jaz Wood also made 15, but wickets fell regularly. Captain Preston came in with 10 balls left and Steep were 21 runs short, but some powerful hitting and audacious running took Steep to 109.
