STEEP Tennis Club head coach Dave Gaterell has had a successful year to date on the International Tennis Federation seniors’ tour.

Gaterell competes in the over-40s age group. Having made the doubles final of the Indoor National Championships in Tipton, he went on to make his first singles final in the British Clay Court Championships at West Hants, as well as winning the over-40s singles at Havant.

At West Hants, Gaterell chatted with former Wimbledon semi-finalist Roger Taylor, who was competing in the over-75s age group.

These results have seen Gaterell’s over-40s singles world ranking go to 42, and have led to him being picked as a reserve for the Great Britain team playing at the World Championships in Miami during October.

He will also be competing in the British Grass Court Championships at Wimbledon and the over-35s County Cup in Eastbourne, representing Hampshire, both in August.

Gaterell has run the tennis coaching programme at Steep Tennis Club for nearly 16 years, and will be organising an extensive summer camp programme for juniors aged between four and 16 years old.

The camps are aimed at players of all abilities.
