FIVE Petersfield Triathlon Club members branched out and entered a long distance swim – 9km down the River Thames in Oxfordshire.

There were three feed stations, and these were a brief respite from the constant turning of arms and gave a chance to feed on flapjack and bananas.

The scenery varied from resplendent docks and gardens to bridges, over hanging trees and yellow water lilies.

For some it was more an event to complete than compete in, however, Mark Yadegar came 28th out of 112 and seventh in his age category. Karen Malestrom, from Frensham Pond swimmers, not only completed the course without a wetsuit, but came second in her age category and 39th overall.
