Local businesses and individuals took part in an annual charity event to raise money for people living with cancer.

This year’s Macmillan Coffee Mornings took place in Clanfield, Horndean, Petersfield and Steep amongst others. The fundraisers have taken place since 1990 and participants make or buy cakes and provide drinks and people then provide a donation.

The Post went along to some of the coffee mornings in Petersfield.

Sheridan Rocher, manager of age concern, based at Winton House Centre, said: “It's a joint venture between Age Concern Petersfield and the Winton House Centre. It's been quite steady, we have done it for the last three years.

“Its the best thing because you can raise some awareness and a bit of money. I would think you could ask anyone in here and there is a link to someone with cancer.”

Despite the wet weather, The Harrow pub’s coffee morning raised around £3,300. The Clanfield Centre and Bere Grove Care Home in Horndean also had successful events. Estate agent Williams of Petersfield was another participant.

A team member from the estate agent said: “This is our third year of doing it and the first time was a huge success. “Our staff make a majority of the cakes and we invite our landlords, contractors, vendors and solicitors.”

They also added that their mother had cancer and Macmillan had been a huge support during that time. Although the suggested time for hosting a coffee morning has passed, the charity states they can be held anytime of year.
