An emergency road closure is in place on a lane between Clanfield and Horndean.

Catherington Lane will be closed from tonight (July 9) to Sunday, July 14. The closure is due to a gas main diverting into the centre of the road.

Community representatives met with Hampshire Highways on site and concluded that closing the road was the only safe option.

On social media, Cllr Sara Schillemore posted: “We appreciate this will be disruptive for local road users, our engineers will be doing all they can to complete the required work by Sunday 14 July.

“Our site engineers will liaise with all the residents within the closure to ensure they are informed about access arrangements. The team will look after them.”

The road will be closed from just past The Farmer Inn to the junction of Roads Hill. Vehicle access to either side of the closure will be shown by diversion signs.

Diversion Routes will be via:

  • Northbound - Stonechat Road, Frogmore Lane and Lovedean Lane
  • Southbound - Lovedean Lane, Frogmore Lane and Stonechat

The Farmer Inn can be accessed via Southdown Road and Catherington Lane. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
