Community centre bosses have double reason to celebrate as a family event in Clanfield has been a four-middable success.

Organisers of the village’s summer festival were blown away with more than 4,000 people braving the windy conditions.

That’s more than half the village – while proceeds from the event hosted by the Clanfield Centre have passed the £4,000 mark.

Highlights included dog competitions, stalls, games, an indoor market and beer garden while live music from The Wednesdays, WonderBoy, Electraverse and The DLB wowed the crowds.

The turnout was double last year’s and its pulling power was demonstrated in a tug-of-war involving festivalgoers of all ages.

The £3,500 raised by the venue’s café and pop-up bar will be pumped back into the centre while a special raffle for Sophie’s Legacy and Community First has raised more than £500.

The latter, which runs the Green Lane venue, also provided free shuttle buses for villagers, helping many people with mobility issues to get easy access to the festival.

“This year we aimed to go bigger and better with our summer festival and we were blown away with the success,” said Natasha Glover, centre manager, before thanking everyone involved.

“It all came together brilliantly and we’re delighted to have raised money for local charities and increased awareness of our café, where we look forward to welcoming many returning customers.”

“The festival was incredible,” said a member of local roller-skating club MPSK8, before adding: “We had an amazing day with over 120 peple trying roller-skating.”

Another festivalgoer said: “It was lovely to see so many people enjoying themselves, we need more of these events.”

“Well done to everyone who helped make it so brilliant – makes me feel very lucky to live here.”
