Children in a South American country have been given a lifeline thanks to a gentle garden party in Steep.

Petersfield charity In Ministry to Children (IMC) raised £900 for its vital work in Colombia through a fundraising Summer Serenade.

Guests who attended the event hosted by trustees Penny Callaghan and Seren Boyd were treated to gentle music from The Dragonflies and consumed homemade cakes in return for a donation to IMC.

The charity was launched by Joan and Terry Thraves after the retired Petersfield couple saw first-hand the plight of street children in the Colombian capital.

The good cause has helped thousands of children at risk from neglect and abuse in Bogota and Colombia since being founded 30 years ago.

Proceeds from the charity have funded food programmes, built two farms for seriously-abused youngsters and enabled children to go to school.
