A Petersfield group is taking part in the Green Match Fund from today (Tuesday, April 22) to April 29, to raise vital funds for environmental projects.

Every pound raised for Petersfield Climate Action Network (PeCAN) will be doubled by Big Give and go towards nature recovery awareness projects, schools and youth engagement work, local business support, home retrofit advice and community outreach events.

PeCAN hopes to raise £2,500 over the next week, to further the organisation’s aim of supporting Petersfield and the surrounding villages to reduce carbon emissions and protect nature.

Greg Ford, PeCAN chair, said: “We are delighted to be selected for this match funding campaign. We are aiming to raise £2,500 in one week - that's £1,250 from your online donations that will be matched pound for pound by the Big Give’s Green Match Fund.

“So please support us. This is your opportunity to double your donation and double your impact to ensure Petersfield is fit for the future.”

Over the winter months PeCAN’s increasingly popular ‘A Fruit Tree in Every Garden project’ saw more than 1,200 subsidised fruit trees (funded by EHDC) distributed in and around Petersfield, taking the total number to nearly 3,000 since the project began in 2020.

The group has offered energy efficiency and retrofit support to 480 households receiving advice under the SuperHomes scheme and has recently launched a new My Home Made Better initiative, aiming to reach over 1,000 more people.

In addition, PeCAN provides free eco workshops and assemblies to local schools and has successfully delivered transformative sessions to more than 5,000 children. In 2024, PeCAN hosted 1,500 visitors at the second Petersfield Eco Fair, in partnership with the Town Council.
