East Hampshire District Council’s (EHDC) Cabinet has declared its former offices at Penns Place in Petersfield surplus to the council’s needs.

EHDC will now work with its partners on how the land will be used in the future. Staff moved out of Penns Place and into Monterey House, the new offices on Bedford Road, in March.

Since then the building which had served as a base for the council since 1974, has been stripped and decommissioned.

Due to incurring costs associated with holding Penns Place as a vacant site, it is hoped a solution for the future of the site will be identified as quickly as possible.

Cllr Richard Millard, EHDC leader, said: “The council has to take care with public assets and public finances and it will look to maximise the value of this brownfield site.

“It will continue to work with other landowners to work out how the best sports facilities can be provided at Penns Place, while respecting the environmental designations affecting the site.”
