Horndean care home residents recently attended an intergenerational workshop in a neighbouring village.

The Clanfield Centre hosted Bere Grove Care Home for Grow Up! An East Hampshire-wide programme that supports rural economy, reconnects people with the countryside, provides new skills, new careers and new opportunities for residents.

Bere Grove was invited by Zack, who heads up the project for The Clanfield Centre. They were joined by children and their parents from Petersgate Infant School and together made their own terrariums.

The group also enjoyed an informative talk to support the activity and got to taste some delicious refreshments provided by the centre’s Brewsters Café.

John, a Bere Grove resident, said: “I found this very educational and enjoyable, I love my terrarium and can’t wait to watch it flourish. The children have been very sweet, it is good to see them take an interest in gardening.”

While Bere Grove has its own minibus for trips and events, they were treated to a ride from Nick at Community First Fareham.

Diana, Bere Grove general manager, commented: “We were delighted to be invited the group alongside the young children. The residents at our home had a lot of fun on the day.

“We would love to do more like this at the home, if anyone ever wants to stop in for a lovely afternoon with your young ones, or just for a cuppa and a break, we’d love to have you join us.”
