CHURCHER’S College Junior School pupils were enthralled by a day of workshops led by Rob Hugh from Learning Performance.

The day gave children an insight into how they learn and enabled them to develop their study skills. The children were given this opportunity to help support them to maximise their own potential by improving their personal learning performance through acquiring the right skills to study effectively and efficiently. The day was carefully designed to ensure pupils reinforced and further developed the skills they had gained last year.

Year 2 learnt to juggle as part of the day as learning how to juggle provides a good analogy for the learning process – the way the mind and body learn and develops new skills, and links the two sides of the brain together. Throughout the day the children were encouraged to develop a growth mindset as they learnt if they approach tasks with the correct attitude they will succeed.

In the evening Year 5 parents accompanied their children to a workshop in which they worked together to formulate effective strategies for reviewing school work and perfecting using their memories. Many parents commented on how useful and enjoyable the session had been and the children will continue to develop the skills they gleaned throughout the year in their curriculum studies.
