Students at The Petersfield School (TPS) came to together to share and celebrate their long-awaited GCSEs.
It was an anxious wait for the group as they slowly filled the gymnasium and went to find the envelope containing their results. One student commented that their hands were shaking as they tried to open their envelope.
TPS said outstanding progress was made as over three quarters of students achieved a grade four (grade C) or above in both English and Maths. In addition, a third of all the grades awarded were at the grade seven to nine (A*/A) level.
Millie G, from Petersfield, achieved a staggering eleven straight grade nine GCSEs (A**). TPS said only a very small number of students across the whole country achieve that set of results each year.
“I am so pleased with my results!” Millie said.
“I have had such an amazing time at TPS. I am now going to study Maths, Further Maths, English Literature and History.”
For this year’s cohort, it was also a day of achievement for working hard through the disruption caused by Covid. According to Headteacher Mark Marande, the group had one term in year seven with the school, before going straight into lockdown after Christmas.
Mr Marande added: “They missed some really crucial bits so I think this makes these results extra special.
“Well over three quarters of our students achieved the all important four, which is the old C grade in English and maths. That's well above national and local Hampshire averages as well.
“We're super proud of all of the achievements of the class of 2024.”
He went on to thank the students’ families, the staff, and the wider school community for the ongoing support.
With the wait over, students can now relax and celebrate their achievements.
