Two dedicated community champions from Haslemere and Fernhurst have been recognised in the King’s Honour Roll for 2024, receiving the British Empire Medal (BEM) for their selfless contributions.
Cllr Malcolm Carter, honoured for services to the Haslemere community, described the recognition as a "humbling" experience.
“When the envelope arrived, I thought it was from the tax man, so it was a very nice surprise to see who it was really from,” he said.
For nearly 15 years, Cllr Carter has been a cornerstone of Haslemere’s community, volunteering with Three Counties Money Advice, providing crucial debt counselling services.
Cllr Carter has also been active in supporting schools and served on the town council as both councillor and former mayor, tirelessly advocating for the town’s well-being.
Joining Cllr Carter on the Honour Roll is Judith Mary Charlotte Turner of Fernhurst, recognised for her unwavering service to the West Sussex community.
Turner’s contributions have made a lasting impact on local residents, earning her a place on the King’s 2024 Roll.
